Your Checklist for Design Clarity

See how to reach your goals more efficiently using the checklist linked below. By defining such things as your project’s objectives, technical specs, and aesthetic preferences early, you minimize ambiguity and reduce the risk of costly revisions later on. This preparation ensures that the design team can more effectively create concepts, saving time and resources. The result is a smoother design process that brings your vision to life while meeting all functional and market requirements.

Core competency

The Design
Process is a Method

While design is a creative process it is fundamentally a very structured process that methodically advance the project towards the goal of a manufacturable product.  See the full list here.

Research

Design Research is the first step in understanding the environment for a new product. It identifies competitors, target customers, and market gaps. A key part of this process is the "mood board," which visually captures the product's use, setting, and customer aspirations. This research forms the basis for focused product development.

Concept ideation

At this stage, the product begins to take form through hand sketches, physical mockups, and prototypes. Various versions and design themes are created and explored, then carefully selected and sometimes combined to refine the product's final direction. This process helps shape the product into its most effective and appealing form.

Design Development

At this stage, the design is fine-tuned to perfect the finish, details, and readiness for manufacturing. Working closely with engineers, materials, finish, and tooling are determined, and the design is adjusted to meet these production requirements, all while preserving the original vision and intent of the design.

Final Design Handoff

The final step in the design process is completing the 3D model with precise Class-A surfacing and finalizing all documentation. Once the design is signed off, it is handed over to the manufacturing engineers. The design team then supports the engineers to ensure the original design intent is maintained while addressing any manufacturing challenges.
